Elaine Rice Bachmann, State Archivist and Commissioner of Land Patents ,Maryland State Archives, Annapolis, Maryland
This lecture is based on a book, Designing Camelot: The Kennedy White House Restoration and its Legacy, co-authored by Bachmann and James Archer Abbott. The two authors considered photographs, letters, and interviews as they analyzed the restoration room-by-room and the choices made by the participants. They were helped enormously by the archived letters written by both the former First Lady, Jackie Kennedy, and Henry Francis du Pont, the country’s biggest collector of Americana as they debated and planned their project.
James Archer Abbott, co-author of Designing Camelot is the executive director of Wright’s Ferry Mansion, Louise Steinman Von Hess Foundation.
The exhibition, Jacqueline Kennedy and H. F. du Pont: From Winterthur to the white House is currently at Winterthur until January 8, 2023
