Jennifer K. Pitman, Specialist, Rago Arts and Auction Center; formerly Vice President, Silver Department, Christie's New York
The lecture will explore Japan's extraordinary influence on American silver. The decorative arts, and silver, in particular, blossomed under the influence of Asian art in the last quarter of the 19th century. Japanese prints, fabrics, metalwork and ceramics all served as inspiration the American silver designers of Tiffany, Gorham and Shiebler.
